Palo Alto Networks acquires CyberArk:A new era of identity management

Palo Alto Networks announced it has signed an agreement to acquire CyberArk, a recognized leader in identity security, in a deal valued at approximately $25 billion in a combination of cash and stock.

This strategic acquisition will be the largest in Palo Alto Networks' history and will create a complete security platform for the AI era. It will integrate CyberArk's privileged access management, secrets management, SSO, and MFA technologies into the Strata™ and Cortex® ecosystems. This will provide customers with a trusted solution to protect all types of accounts — from employees to AI agents — in the face of increasingly complex cyber threats.

Key implications of the acquisition:

Palo Alto Networks formally enters the identity management market, making Identity Security the third pillar of its multi-platform strategy alongside its existing offerings

Security for all types of identities: humans, machines, and autonomous AI agents

Support for AI agents and automated systems. The new ecosystem provides access control mechanisms and least privilege, which is especially important when autonomous AI agents emerge as independent “users” of corporate systems

CyberArk's deep integration will enable countermeasures to be launched in near real-time, minimizing the gap between detection and response to attacks

The transaction has already been approved by the boards of directors of both companies. It is expected to close in the second half of fiscal 2026, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals.
